Christopher Columbus
Hi everyone! At school in my Social Studies class I learned about Christopher Columbus. We learned about many positive things he did but we also learned a lot about him that many people didn't know. Please enjoy and feel free to comment. Is he a Hero or Villain, I want to know your opinion. Thanks for reading!
Christopher Columbus
“In the year 1492,
Columbus sailed the ocean blue”,
He sailed the oceans to a land far away,
And is known as a hero until this day.
But there is a story that is untold,
Of this man who was greedy for power and gold,
He was mean to many,
So is this man a hero or enemy?
Columbus discovered America this is true,
But he also brought depression and the flu,
The stories always praise him and
make him oh so great,
But he also treated many people
with hate.
It all started when his ship
followed the birds,
And when they saw the new land
they were speechless with no words,
Native Americans helped them
unload their things,
And looked up at the ships that
had sails like wings.
At first all was great because
both sides were to trade,
But who knew that Columbus’s crew
had guns and blades,
The chief gave Columbus a crown
for his head,
Who knew that this partnership
would end with many dead.
For the chief the crown
represented they were equal,
But for Columbus this meant that
he had power over all,
In his eyes Columbus saw only gold,
And from here the story starts to
unfold.
He made the native men work in
gold mines,
And to him this action seemed
just fine,
He killed many natives and hung
them on trees,
And many people started to flee.
After 1496 only a third remained,
And most of them died of hunger
and pain,
All the women worked in farms,
And Columbus’s crew continued to
spread fear and alarm.
But Columbus also found out that
the world was round,
And this stopped any rumors that
were to be found,
He is also the reason we have the
life we have today,
And the life he created made
things easier in every way.
In the comment section below,
Comment, is he a friend or a foe,
Was he nice or was he mean,
Where there things that happened
that was not seen?
