Chinese Moon Festival Legend
Hi everyone! Chinese Moon Festival is almost here. This holiday has been celebrated for a long time and is considered a holiday. There are many stories all from different points of views. I prefer the one where it talks more about love and faith. It all starts from an old legend a long time ago, it goes something like this.....
Chinese Moon Legend
This holiday is based on a story long ago,
About a day when it was hot and the wind didn’t
blow,
When ten suns rose to the sky,
And the animals and plants on earth started to
die,
But one of the gods that saw the people who were
in pain,
Took his arrows and did something insane,
And when nine suns fell he thought the situation
was done,
But for his punishment he was sent down to live
a normal life,
To live there with Chang er', his loving wife,
On Earth he was adored as a hero for saving
everyone,
As the protagonist who shot down nine suns,
With his wife by his side and being treated like
king,
He soon became spoiled with money, power, and
bling,
But he knew being human means one day he would
no longer breathe,
So immortality was what he wanted to receive,
One day he got a potion that would grant him
life forever,
Meaning him and his wife would never die and
always be together,
But a hunter heard about this potion and decided
to take a ride,
He told Chang e’ to give him the remedy,
Chang e’ knew she had no chance being only a
lady,
So with no other way she consumed the potion,
And started to fly in an upward motion,
On the moon where she would never die,
Her husband found out and grieved for his love,
Who now lived in the sky above,
He looked at the moon that was as round as a balloon,
And he saw a girl on the moon,
This day many look up hoping to see Chang e’,
And many claim to have seen,
So go outside and look for her,
If you try real hard you'll see her for sure.
The Chinese Moon Festival, or Zhongqiu Jie, is a popular harvest festival celebrated by ethnic Chinese people around the world. According to legend of the moon festival, it is during this festival that the ancient goddess Chang'e flew to the moon. The festival is also a time to honor one's ancestors and to enjoy the beauty of the full moon.
