Japan's Disaster

I wrote this poem to inform readers about the terrible disaster that happened in Japan on 3/11/2011.

Japan's Disaster
The earthquake's magnitude is 8.9,
But the people in Japan are not wasting any time,
They are asking for help and for rescuers to come,
The victims of this disaster are not having any fun,
The people are scared but they try to relax,
Stores give away food that is free of charge and tax,
Everybody there is helping each other,
No matter their race or their color,
They try to ask for help,
But the streets are filled with water and kelp,
The roads have split into two,
Everybody there is feeling blue,
But the people there have not lost hope,
So do not cry and mope,
Pray for the people and hope they are safe,
And wish that the children won't become waifs,
Let's hope that the people will find new homes,
And hope that they will not have to roam,
Let us wish that the people have a warm place to stay,
And after this disaster it will all be okay.

  1. This is awesome Lynne. I am looking to see if there is some type of contest for the relief work and if so I definitely think you should enter this. GREAT WORK!!! You are becoming such an awesome writer and your efforts are definitely showing through.

This is not a site for relief but they publish students work within their magazine. This is a big magazine and would not hurt to send them a few pieces of your work.

  4. This is a very good poem Lynne. In your poem you showed your own expression and ideas about the tragedy. Also, your usage of words such as "waif" shows that you have a great sense of terminology and how it should be used. Keep up the good writing
