Robber Barons

Hi everyone! I have a social studies test tomorrow and part of it is about the Robber Barons. They were  really rich men and possibly the richest men in history. We learned about three of them: Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Vanderbilt. I hope this will entertain, inform  or help you study. Thank you, please enjoy.

Robber Barons
Keep in mind that all three men lived during the 20th century,
In America, the land of the free.

John D. Rockefeller was the richest man in history,
The next man who was almost as rich, was Andrew Carnegie,
Vanderbilt was said to be the fourth richest man,
All three of these men are known as the Robber Barons.

Rockefeller developed the CRUDE OIL business,
He was known for hard work and for being honest,
His company (Standard Oil) was quite successful,
And all US oil was under Rockefeller’s control,
He was charged for a monopoly,
And the Supreme Court found him guilty,
His company was forced to break up into 34,
So all that meant was that he had control over more,
When he died he gave away his money to family, churches, and schools,
He even gave millions to disease research and tools.

Carnegie was 2nd rich but it wasn't always that way,
His story is known as “rags to riches” until this day,
His company was STEEL and that’s how he made his money,
US Steel was the name of his company,
Carnegie gave all of his money to charity,
He gave nothing to his friends and family.

He owned his own ferry at the age of 16,
And then he owned more RAILROADS anyone has ever seen,
Vanderbilt owned about half of the railroads in the eastern United States,
His grandson built the Biltmore estate,
When he passed away he divided his money to his kids, (there were eight),
And they all were rich, which was great.
