Heroes Inside

I’ve heard about those stories,

where people feeling frail,

are saved from frightening monsters,

and left with a fairy tale.

But what about those of us,

who have monsters hid inside,

who will save us from our terrors,

and dry the tears we’ve cried?

Who will destroy our evils,

our own conscious and our faults,

when we all have gotten so good

about keeping them in vaults?

What hero will come swooping in,

if we’ve gotten so good at hiding,

that if the hero asks what’s wrong,

we’ll all end up just denying?

But stories exist for a reason

and help can come to those who ask,

if we can let ourselves take down defenses,

and stop hiding behind a mask.

Monsters inside are scary,

I won’t deny that that’s true,

but if a hero is found inside,

the winner will surely be you.
